A single stitch can take Chris Epps Wheeler back to a time when she spent lazy afternoons on the front porch of a small, shotgun house in Piedmont quilting with her two contrary old aunts.
That stitch in time takes her back because her passion for quilting got its start on that old wooden porch.
And now, quilting has landed the former Piedmont resident and one of her quilts in a nationwide contest among 472 other quilts.
Wheeler, and her husband Gary, also recently appeared in Birmingham's Thicket magazine in its "Storytellers" feature. In her own words, Wheeler described her humble beginnings in Piedmont, learning the careful pieces that made up quilting and how the hobby now binds her and Gary together after 21 years of marriage.
